When Is the Best Time
During the dry season from November to April, start the hike early. Shoulder season May and June, showers may occur and it is easier to find a nice casa. July and August are the Cuban school holidays.

Location and Tips
We visited the National Park Alejandro de Humboldt with a day tour from Baracoa. We walked the 7km long trail called "Balcon de Iberia". This national park is quite isolated, in the far east of Cuba. Its isolated position developed a unique and diverse tropical biological environment with a diversity of ecosystems. Many of the underlying rocks are toxic to plants, so species have adapted to survive in these hostile conditions. This unique process of evolution has resulted in the development of many new species. The park is one of the most important sites in the Western Hemisphere for the conservation of endemic flora.
We were lucky enough to see to the smallest frog in the world, who's size is less than 1 cm. The name of this minuscule frog is Eleutherodactylus Iberia. We also some other interesting animals. The Cuban parakeet, a red scorpion (whom we later discovered was a very toxic one), and a bizarre and rare palm tree type. This endemic palm tree's trunk was surrounded by rows of needles, who were sharp as knives.
The trail goes up-and-down, and you'll have to cross many rivers. At one point you can swim under a waterfall in a small clear river, which is very special.
On the way back to Baracoa, we made a stop at Playa Maguana, a perfect spot to end this great day.
