Bunaken is a whole year destination though best during the dry season..
Best months are May to September the dry season. The wet season starts from November to February. The precipitation has a little effect to the visibility.
Peak season July and August which is higher priced and fully booked.
Dolphin and whale watching is offered in July and August.

Bunaken is famous for its underwater life. You can spot more fish species during one dive than existing in the Caribbean Sea incl. the famous mandarin fish. It has five species of sea turtles and even white- and blacktip reef sharks.
I've visited Bunaken three times so far and always for more than a week. There are more than 50 dive stops; each with different species. If you stay there, I'd recommend making a trip to Bangka.
