When Is the Best Time
The Tab Kak Hang Nak hiking trail becomes more popular, but due to the remote location, it's still not overrun up to hundred hikers per day. Start hiking in the morning to avoid the heat at midday. At this time of the day, only a few people are along the trail and on the top. The trail is open from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. If you would like to watch the sunrise or sunset you have to contact one of the ranger/officers otherwise you may get a fine of 1000 Baht.
The beginning of the hike
The dry season lasts from December to late April. However, showers can also occur in the dry season and especially in the rainforest. The hottest months are March and April with temps around 34°C and higher. Due to the high humidity hiking and breathing are more strenuous. The rainy season starts around late April and persists until the end of November.

There are many activities around Krabi; this is a must do trail to experience the breathtaking landscape self-guided. Hang Nak mountain is 498 meters / 1634 feet high above sea level. The return hike is almost 8 km / 5 miles long. To get there follow the only road with your scooter. Anyhow, depending on where you stay it’s easier to find the trailhead with navigation on your mobile as we did. It can happen pretty easy that you take the wrong road. When we did the hike, it was not at all that clear rather hazier although we start in the morning. The apparent humidity was almost 100 %. Bring a small towel you can’t avoid sweating on this strenuous hike. First, you have to sign in for the trail. Unlike other National Parks, there is no fee requested for this hike. Here you find the last facilities. The path leads through the rainforest. After 400 meters, you get close to the river with clear cold water. It’s a great stop after the hike. The track is always a steep climb uphill, and there are roots which are sticking up. Be careful with them. You reach the first viewpoint after 2.5 km, and 300 meters later the trail splits. Continue left to the top, right leads to a waterfall which is a trickle only in the dry season. When you reach the peak, there are many open areas for incredible views to limestone mountains. Walk circular, and you don’t miss any of these breathtaking views.
The famous rock like a stone tongue which is a spectacular photo stop is for safety reasons fenced-off. We didn’t spot any snakes, but we got told it may happen to see one or two. Wear proper shoes on the challenging and slippery trail. It took us an hour to get to the top. If you go slowly, you may need up to 2 hours one way.

Rent a scooter and visit Tab Kak in the morning and the Tiger Cave Temple in the late afternoon when the tour buses already left this amazing place.
There is a huge variety of accommodations around Krabi and Aonang. It was our first time in Thailand, and we were glad that we'd chosen the Aonang Fiore Resort for five nights. It was the best stay of our whole trip through Thailand. They always had a smile and assisted us where ever needed. They organized the scooter rental, a sunset cruise on their own vessel. The food was outstanding the reason that we ate in the resort restaurant each evening. When we arrived early morning, they already checked us in. We rested for a couple of hours; had an excellent lunch and started to explore the area.
