When Is the Best Time

x

Cabo Espichel is very special and worth a visit throughout the year. We never experienced it overrun because it is an hour drive from Lisbon. The Lisboans prefer to drive to Costa da Caparica usually not until the end to Praia do Meco. The awesome beach stretches for 30 km. We often spot dolphins from Cabo Espichel and once even orcas in the summer. The sunset is stunning. The lighthouse is open to the public on Wednesdays only from 2 pm. until 5 pm. only. I have to confess we never made it to the top.

The sea temperature is already warmer than in Cascais or Estoril. Also, the day temperature is slightly higher. Even in winter temps can climb up to 20°C.

It is as breathtaking as Cabo da Roca but less overrun 45 km south of Lisboa. The lighthouse is on a 150 m high cliff and is 32 m tall. It was built in 1790 at the same location of an ancient lighthouse which was constructed in 1430. Open to the public to climb the tower on Wednesdays only. The entrance is free. In walking distance is the sanctuary "Santuário de Nossa Senhora" and dinosaur footprints. You have a stunning view of Caparica and Meco. If you want to visit Cabo Espichel have a look to Meco and combine it.

Such a beautiful place. We even spotted a school of dolphins. There is a restaurant now which offers different kinds of clams/mussels. The "lapas" were absolutely delicious.
