When Is the Best Time

Praia do Meco is our favourite beach at Costa da Caparica. It's always worth visiting throughout the year. Even during winter, temperatures are often pleasant ranging from 14-18°C. Summer, July and August are super busy everywhere and quite hot. May, September, and October are the best months regarding the temperature and the crowds. It's sunny, quiet, and fewer people visit the beach. Be careful with the currents; sometimes, heavy waves occur. A group of young people got washed into the sea, one drowned.

Where to Eat at Praia do Meco

Both available restaurants are awesome, but we prefer the Onda Azul Restaurant. They offer great Polvo salad, amêijoas à bulhão pato (mussels with coriander - bigger and better from April until September), and fresh fish grilled. During the low season (winter), the restaurant is open at weekends only. If you want to spoil yourselves, come here for lunch and a walk along this never-ending beach.

Costa da Caparica is a 30 km coastline of sandy beaches. You can visit this marvellous beach throughout the year but if possible, avoid the beach from mid-June to August. It is exceedingly popular for the Lisboans and tourists as well. However, Praia do Meco is not too close to Lisbon therefore quieter. Enjoy the beautiful scenery and walk along the beach for hours. A trail is leading on top of the dunes direction Cabo Espichel. When it ends, walk down to the beach and back.

If you are fortunate, you can watch the fishermen doing their work in the evening. Have a look at the old and charming fishing boats. In January and February, the beaches are full of clams.

Where to Park the Car

There are plenty of parking spaces. The closest parking takes a fee of 2€, and the first one just a two-minute walk to the beach takes 1€ for the entire stay. However, it can get pretty full during the school holidays in summer.
