When Is the Best Time
May, June and September it is less busy. If you go by car the morning and afternoon are more enjoyable. Daily boat tours are offered from mid-May until mid-September from Kissamos. It's only a short stop at Balos. In spring many different flowers are in bloom.

We preferred to go by car to be more flexible and to enjoy this beautiful beach and Balos Lagoon for a few hours. It's a gravel road, driving carefully and slow is important. After parking the car it is an one km walk with a steep descent. Snorkeling in the deeper water is worth a try. Balos lagoon is home to the turtle caretta caretta and monk seals. Several birds are nesting in caves around the area like falcons, shags and cormorants.
