When Is the Best Time
Kayaking from Largos is a Must-Do activity. The view from the kayak to the rugged coastline is stunning. Entering caves with your kayak is exceptional.
Soak in the beauty of the Algarve on such a guided kayak tour. The trips are offered from March to October. During the peak season in summer, up to four times and in the shoulder season twice daily.
The morning tours are slightly quieter, and the advantage it is less hot in summer. We chose the afternoon tour due to the sunlight conditions for incredible shots. I never travel without my camera. However, keep in mind the sea is calmer in the morning and a bit rough in the afternoon. Some providers offer sunrise and sunset trips in summer, also just breathtaking.
Avoiding Crowds
The Algarve is less busy during the shoulder season. The sea is still a bit cold in May and June. June and September are my favourite months in Portugal; fantastic weather and fewer people. The Portuguese school holidays start in late June and last until the beginning of September; therefore, July and August are super busy at the Algarve. Most accommodations are fully booked in summer, and the sky is the limit for the better-rated ones.

Weather Algarve
Spring and autumn are pleasantly warm, ranging from 18-24°C in the shade, so much warmer in the sun at midday. In the summer, temperatures frequently climb to 30°C, but nights cool down thanks to the sea breeze. Winter is the wettest time of the year though it doesn't rain for days often. It is mild, with roughly 16°C during the day and dropping to 9°C at night. The driest months are from May to September. The Algarve is an outstanding destination throughout the year through July and August, beaches are packed with Portugues.
The sea temperature is pleasant from May to October. In May ranging from 16-20°C and after the hot summer from 24-18°C.

Location and Tips
The guided kayak trip takes up to 2.5 hours in small groups. You get a brief explanation of how to paddle and steer. Even for beginners, it’s pretty fun and a workout. Usually, a waterproof bag is offered if you don’t have your own one. The crystal-clear water, the cliff formations, the different caves and the views are breathtaking.
You kayak along the coast into the caves, always getting different perspectives and at the end to a secluded beach. You can either swim, jump from the rocks or snorkel.
Snorkel is nice, but don't expect too much. Our nephew preferred to jump from a rock, and we enjoyed the sea for swimming. On the way back, you can either kayak by yourselves or get towed back. A motorboat tracks the group all the time in case anyone needs assistance.
Parking Tip
Only limited parking in Lagos close to the harbour. We parked our car in the residential neighbourhood and walked for 15 minutes to the meeting point.
Accommodation Tip Albufeira
There are plenty of hotels, guest houses, and rental homes at the Algarve. We chose a rental house close to Albufeira. I recommend accommodations between Portimao and Albufeira. I suppose you like to explore some of the most outstanding places and you don't want to drive that far. I prefer to stay closer to all activities and the most beautiful beaches. I added a link for rental houses around Albufeira via booking.com.
