When Is the Best Time

x

Valle Verzasca is a beautiful valley and impressive throughout the year. If you like to come here for swimming, diving or snorkelling the season starts in May until October. The mountain river is chilly and a wetsuit is a must to stay in the river for a while. The water temp is more bearable in August/ September. Best light from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. If you arrive afterwards the rock garden is less impressive without any sunshine into the river.

Crowds

Peak season and utterly crowded in July and August. Our preferred month is September, with fewer crowds and less cold. Avoid the crowds at weekends.

Check the weather forecast first; sometimes, flood waves can happen. Weather Forecast

Valle Verzasaca and Valle Maggia are well known and popular for river diving. We had been there several times in different months. It's always great to spend hours at and in the emerald-coloured clear water with the rock garden at Lavertezzo. Enjoy the view of the 17th-century Ponte dei Salti Bridge. Some brave men jump from it into the river. The best time is between 10 am and 2 pm. on a sunny day.

Parking

There is limited parking in the small village. Therefore, if you arrive after midday you may not get any space. Get a ticket and display it in your car.

Valle Verzasca is a very popular hiking destination. One of the most impressive ones is the Verzasca Valley trail, a two-day hike - 34 km long. You can either start in Locarno or Gordola. The trail leads through the stunning valley along the Verzasca until Sonogno at the end of the valley. We always come here after hiking for a refreshing dip in the river.
