When Is the Best Time
It is better to start in the morning or before noon since the walk can take more than six hours (depending on your fitness level). Always check the forecast before you go!
Some say, the best time to visit Scotland is from mid-April to the end of May, but you can experience good weather conditions throughout the year. We were there at the end of April and except for the cold, we had the best weather ever.
For detailed weather and crowds information check out my article from Stac Pollaidh one of the Assynt Hills.
Best Months to Visit
Location and Tips
Quinag is a massif of three Corbetts. It lies in the northern Assynt near Kylesku bridge. The best way up the mountains is from the car park on the main road A894. The start of the path is well marked. The first summit to climb is Spidean Coinich. The way up is through good stony ground and views are soon great with other Assynt hills on the left-hand side. From the top, continue along the ridge and down to the col.
The second summit to bag is Sail Gorm. Be careful since some parts of the path are steep and require a little use of hands to climb or descent. From Sail Gorm, go back to the last summit of Sail Gharbh. With 808 meters it is the highest of the trio. Descent to the col and then to the well visible return path to the car park. The views from the whole ridge are excellent.
